Which states are earning less per room than we expect tonight, and how many rooms do we have in each?
NThree states are below what tonight should earn
IN A NUTSHELL
Three states are earning less per available room tonight than we expect of them. Arizona is furthest — $87 a room against an expected $128, $41 below, across 2,840 rooms. Nevada is $23 below across 1,910 rooms and New Mexico $15 below across 760. Every other state is at or above what tonight expects. Arizona’s gap on its room count is $116,000 of room revenue in one night.
Revenue per available room tonight against what we expect, by state
Each state is read against what a Wednesday in May expects of it — that figure is on each row, because a room in Arizona and one in New Mexico do not earn the same on an ordinary night.
Arizona has 2,840 rooms against 2,670 across Nevada and New Mexico together, so it carries both the most rooms and the widest gap. The three states are $172,000 of room revenue between them tonight.

How has revenue per room in Arizona moved day by day against what we expect?
NTwo nights below, and tonight is the worse one
IN A NUTSHELL
Arizona swings hard across the week — $110 on a quiet Sunday and $170 on a Saturday — so the range swings with it. Through 19 May the hotels never sat more than $8 away from what that particular day expects. Last night they were $28 below what a Tuesday expects, and tonight they are $41 below what a Wednesday expects. Two nights below the range, and the second is wider than the first.
Revenue per available room by day, against the range expected · Arizona
The range rises for Fridays and Saturdays and drops for Sundays — it comes from the same weekday in the three weeks before, so a busy Saturday is not read as a good result on its own.
The raw numbers move more between a Sunday and a Saturday than they do between last night and a normal Tuesday. What matters is the distance from what each night expects, and that has gone from $8 at worst to $41.

Is it the rate we are getting, or how many rooms we are filling?
NBoth, and the empty rooms are the bigger half
IN A NUTSHELL
Both have moved. Rooms filled are 68.3% against a usual 87.5% for a Wednesday — 19.2 points down, or 22% fewer rooms. The average rate is $127.44 against a usual $146.29, which is 13% less. Multiply the two together and they give the 32% fall in revenue per room. The rooms booked on the day have fallen most — 11.2% filled against a usual 26.4%, at $84 a room against $112.
Rooms filled and rate achieved by booking window · Arizona tonight
The four windows add up to the whole hotel — 68.3% filled tonight against 87.5% on a usual Wednesday, with the rate for each window on the right.
Bookings made more than thirty days out are the only window filling as usual, at 14.1% against 13.8%. Everything booked inside a month is short, and the closer in it was booked the shorter it is.
